E’ stato tra i protagonisti assoluti della spedizione italiana alle Olimpiadi di Rio. Con la nazionale di volley ha conquistato da grande protagonista la medaglia d’argento. Si tratta del palleggiatore bolzanino Simone Giannelli ricevuto in municipio e premiato stamane dal Sindaco di Bolzano Renzo Caramschi e dall’Assessore allo Sport del Comune Angelo Gennaccaro.
Con l’incontro di stamane la Città di Bolzano ha voluto così tributare un doveroso omaggio ed esprimere un particolare ringraziamento ad un giovane bolzanino che, grazie alle sue indubbie doti tecniche, alle sue capacità sportive e non da ultimo alle sua naturale simpatia e spontaneità, ha saputo regalare grandissime emozioni sportive (oltre ad un grande risultato) all’Italia intera.Nel corso dell’incontro in municipio, l’Assessore allo Sport Angelo Gennaccaro ha illustrato i dettagli dei festeggiamenti per Simone Giannelli (giocatore in forza alla Trentino Volley) che coinvolgeranno più direttamente tutta la comunità nel corso di un evento sportivo pubblico in programma a Bolzano ad inizio ottobre. Precisamente giovedì 6 ottobre alle ore 20.00 al Palasport di via Resia andrà in scena un’amichevole di lusso organizzata dalla società bolzanina STS (la prima squadra di Giannelli) tra i campionissimi della Trentino Volley (la squadra in cui milita Simone Giannelli) ed i vice campioni di Germania, i tedeschi del Friedrischshafen.
L’entrata sarà libera per il pubblico e Simone Giannelli sarà premiato e festeggiato dalla sua Città.
“Ringrazio Simone Giannelli – ha detto il Sindaco Caramaschi – per la gioia che ci ha regalato, conquistando un argento prestigioso. Siamo onorati di avere dei giovani bolzanini che si fanno valere con qualità, impegno, intelligenza, allenamento costanza e determinazione. Tutto ciò credo rappresenti un esempio per la nostra gioventù che mi piace immaginare, bella, impegnata, sana e sportiva. Spero davvero che l’esempio positivo di Simone Giannelli possa essere in qualche modo contagioso e rappresentare uno spot efficace per il volley e in generale per lo sport”.

Simone Giannelli ha ringraziato per la calorosa accoglienza ricevuta. “Sono molto contento di essere qui
oggi, finalmente nella mia città. Sono sempre in giro ed oggi devo dire che mi fa particolarmente piacere poter trascorrere del tempo qui a Bolzano”. Rispondendo al Sindaco che lo aveva simpaticamente ripreso per alcune battute non andate a buon fine durante la finale con il Brasile, Giannelli ha promesso un allenamento specifico più intenso, in modo di poter far meglio tra quattro anni alle prossime Olimpiadi.

Sindaco e Assessore allo Sport hanno consegnato la Medaglia ufficiale della Città di Bolzano (“meno bella di quella Olimpica” ha precisato il Sindaco) oltre ad altri riconoscimenti.
